Fatima and her family fled the siege and destruction of Homs, Syria back in 2013, left stateless and destitute with their two children, their long journey began, until finally they were granted residency in Bulgaria. But with the help of Catholic agencies, they put down new roots, wrote a new beginning to their tale, integrating into Bulgarian society and opening a new bakery. Vulnerable and rejected for years, they are now part of a community, a new hope for others, and a blessing to their new neighbors. “We are at the beginning of our lives,” Fatima says.
